Barry M. had a dream of installing a small vineyard on his
Stattsburg, NY resort property in the Hudson Valley.  Barry
found "Woods Wine - Backyard Vineyard Consulting" during his preliminary internet research, and contacted me.  I made my first
trip to Barry's "Farm" in 2009 to do an initial consultation regarding
his chosen vineyard site. We reviewed soil analysis, row orientation, removal of trees that obstructed the vineyard sunlight, and many
other aspects of planning the new vineyard.  For several
subsequent months, I provided remote consultation support
in which I laid out the vineyard posts and vine holes, designed the
trellis, created a trellis hardware bill of materials and cost estimate,
and performed many other design and planning aspects of Barry's
new vineyard.  I made two additional trips to provide on-site training
and assistance with the trellis wire installation, and the vine planting.  Barry had an outstanding local project leader, Freddie L., who hired
a crew of workers to help with the installation.  To see a photo
essay of this vineyard installation, go to this link: xxxxx.  When we completed the installation, Barry had this to say:
"Dear Ed,
Thank you so much for your hard work in making my dream of a
vineyard come true.  My family and I are extremely pleased with the
final result.  You delivered on every promise.  Please email me any
pictures you may have taken.
I look forward to a continued working relationship.
Sincerely,
Barry."

Roz and Bob M. drove several times from Granville
Summit, PA. to the NY Wine and Culinary Center in
Canandaigua, NY, to attend all of the Backyard Vineyard
classes and receive their NYWCC Certificate.  Roz and
Bob started a 300 vine vineyard, which they named the
"Buffalo Ridge Vineyard".   Roz had this to say:
"Taking the Backyard Yard Vineyard class series with
Ed Kwiek was a great learning experience. We learned
a lot of new  ideas, and reaffirmed the concepts
that we had previously researched.  The class is very
well organized, and Ed gives your plenty of information
and worksheets to get started.  Ed is a great source
of knowledge, and ready to help all the time, even
after the class was over.  I highly recommend this
series of classes to anyone thinking about
planting a backyard vineyard."

Craig W. drove several times from Salem, Ohio to the
NY Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua, NY to
attend all of the Backyard Vineyard classes and received
the NYWCC Certificate.  Craig started his vineyard on a
small "Retirement Farm" by planting 60 vines.  Craig chose
two cold hardy cultivars: "Marquette" and "Noiret". Craig
had this to say about the lecture series: "Your workshops
were most enjoyable and informative-if you ever decide on
an advanced series let me know!"

John S. Is a client from Maryland who I worked with remotely using only emails (with pictures and diagrams attached) and phone calls.  Read what John had to say:

"Dear, Ed
I just wanted to thank you for the excellent advice I’ve received from Woods Wine.  Like a lot of people, I had always dreamed of having my own vineyard and ability  to make wine but lacked the “know how” and, to be honest, the confidence to try it myself. I had scoured    the internet looking for information but it simply was    not available.
Your detailed vineyard installation manual combined  with the four-year plan and cost estimating workbook   as well as ongoing consultation have been invaluable and provided in a way a beginner (like me) can understand, along with pictures to visualize each step along the way.  You have definitely steered me past the pitfalls and mistakes that would have been too painful (time consuming and expensive) to learn from the “school of hard knocks.”
Following your advice, I now have my own backyard vineyard with your recommended grape cultivars that thrive in my Chesapeake Bay terroir.  My neighbors   have complimented on the stunning beauty of the   design and natural symmetry it provides to my property as well as the whole neighborhood.  It is the only micro-vineyard in town and now, they all want to help out with the vineyard as it connects us to the land.  They want to establish their own micro-vineyards, but with other cultivars so we can make some nice wine blends from future harvests. I’ve steered them all to Woods Wine. There isn’t a more concise, helpful backyard micro-vineyard source of expertise out there than Woods   Wine and they won’t be disappointed. Thanks for all   your help!
John"

Jon T. drove several times from Seneca Falls, NY
to the NY Wine and Culinary Center in
Canandaigua, NY to attend all of the Backyard Vineyard classes and received the NYWCC
Certificate. Jon has about 40 vines that he planted
in May, 2009.  Jon had this to say: "I want to thank
you for the great 'Backyard Vineyard' classes.  You know it is one thing to read all the books about
growing grapes and making wine but it is another
to be able to discuss it with someone who has been there.  You were interesting, informative and creative
in your class.  As a result, I believe I am better prepared for the tasks at hand.  Thanks again and
I look forward to speaking with you in the future."

Joe C.  made arrangements for me to travel to
Peter M.'s newly planted 3400 vine vineyard in
Cazenovia, NY. for an on-site consultation. Joe's
request was: "Any advice you can give us, along with recommendations to protect them from disease and
pest infestation, would be great.  And a demonstration
of staking and the grow tubes would be welcomed as well."
